| Home Priorities Donors Application Projects News Documents Annual awards Links | HOME The Fund was established on October 5, 2004 by a decision of the National Trust EcoFund’s Board of Directors pursuant to Articles 66, 67 and 68 of the Environmental Protection Law (published in the State Gazette, Issue No. 91 of September 25, 2002). The Bulgarian Protected Areas Fund’s strategy was molded with participation of all stakeholders: the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria, international donors in the sector of Nature conservation, potential beneficiaries, such as protected areas administrations, municipalities, non-governmental organizations, other stakeholders. The strategy was developed with the financial and expert support of the US Agency for International Development, Government of the Swiss Confederation and GEF through The World Bank. The Fund’s mission is to assist for the landscape, natural habitats and biodiversity preservation in the Bulgaria’s protected areas, in accordance with the national biodiversity conservation policy by sustainable financing to complement the budget funding provided by the Government and co-funding by donor projects focusing on protected areas. Bulgarian Protected Areas Fund enjoys the support of the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria because its main activities aim at implementation of the governmental policy on biodiversity, whilst assisting to fulfillment of the country’s international obligations in the field. Management The Protected Areas Fund’s strategy foresees that the funds raised might be managed in either of the following two ways:
